Sermon Highlights – Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018

God spoke to Moses at the burning bush, calling him to deliver the children of Israel from their captivity in Egypt.

Moses was told to go to Pharaoh and tell him “Let My people go”.    But Pharaoh made it all the harder for the people.  He said if they have time to worship they can find the supplies to make their own bricks.

Moses reply to God in Exodus 5:22-23 was –  “Why have you brought me here.  It has just brought trouble on this people.  You call this deliverance?”

Exodus 6   God says, “You will see what I am about to do”.    (verse 2) I am the LORD.

God told Moses at the burning bush – (Exodus 3:14) I AM that I AM.   Or I will be what I will be.  I will be whatever the people have need of. “I AM”.

Verse 3 – God appeared to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as “God Almighty” – the ALL POWERFUL God.   But by My name “LORD”, I was not known to them.

“LORD” in all caps shows a master who rules everything.  One worthy of respect dignity honor, majesty.

God was getting ready to show the world that He was master of everything.

Verse 6 – 8  tells us who the “LORD” is:

“I am the LORD”I will bring them our from under the burdens.  I will rescue them from their bondage.  I will redeem them with an outstretched arm.  I will take them as My people.  I will be their God.  You will know I am the LORD your God who brings you out from under the burdens.  I will bring you into the land I promised.  I will give to you an inheritance.  “I AM the LORD”!

As you read through chapters 7 – 14, God is showing Himself as the “LORD” – the one who has authority over everything.  He controls the water, the life of animals, crops, nature, and people.  He parts the Red Sea for them to cross over on dry ground!  He delivers them from the oppression of the Egyptians.

When we read these chapters, we can think it happens quick.  But there is time that passes.  Moses doesn’t have a car to get from his home to Pharaoh palace.  He is walking.  How long did each plague go on?  And the emotions of the people.  All excited, today is the day we are going to be free from this.  NO!  Pharaoh changed his mind.  Not today!  Maybe today will be the day.  Can’t imagine the ups and downs their emotions were going through.  But the day finally comes, and they see that God is truly the “I AM”!  “The Almighty God”.  “The LORD”!

In the book of Luke, we see Jesus as the “I AM”, “Almighty God”, “LORD”.   He was born of a virgin.  Overcame, temptations in the wilderness.  Rejected by men.  He cast out demons. Healed Peter’s mother-in-law. Heals many.  Tells fisherman who fished all night to throw their nets on the other side of the boat and they caught so many fish they needed help to get them to shore. Heals a leper.  Heals a paralyzed man.  Heals a man with a withered hand.  Heals a great multitude of people.  Heals a soldier’s servant.  Raises a widow’s son back to life.  Forgives an adulteress woman.  The winds and waves obey Him. He sends out 12 disciples and then 70 more to share the good news and deliver people. He brings a young girl back to life. Heals a man with dropsy.  Heals 10 lepers.  Gives a blind man his sight.  Endures harassment, beatings, the cross, raises from the dead and shows Himself alive to the disciples!

Jesus truly is the “I AM”, “Almighty God”, “LORD”!

Jesus, shows His great power, His authority over all things.  When we come to an impossible situation He can deliver.  Our part is to come to Him humbly and believe He can and will do the impossible.  That our God is the same from Moses day to our day.  The Old Testament account of Moses and the New Testament account of Jesus should increase out faith.

Jesus wants to be your “I AM”, “Almighty God”, your “LORD”, today.

Cry out to Him just like the children of Israel did.  He will hear your cry and bring whatever you have NEED of, if you can just believe!
