John 5 tells us the account of Jesus healing a man who can’t walk.
Jesus find this man laying beside a body of water called the pool of Bethesda. He hasn’t walked for 38 years. When the waters in the pool are stirred, the first one to step into the water receives their healing.
Jesus asks the man, “Would you like to get well?”
The man’s response was – “I can’t sir. I have no one to put me into the water. Someone always gets there before me.”
Jesus responded with, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk!”
When Jesus comes, the situations change!
But our human thinking has all kinds of reasons.
- I can’t
- No one will help me
- Someone else already did it.
Jesus says – Rise up! Take action! Get moving!
We can learn from this encounter:
- Jesus is on the scene
- Stop making excuses about ourselves, the situation
- Take action!
- Get moving!
Psalm 42 King David has to talk to himself. I am longing for God like a dear longs for water. I thirst for God. My heart is breaking! Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? (I want to be healed, strengthened).
David was not like the man at the pool instead of making excuses he says, “I will put my hope in God. I will praise Him again, my Savior and my God”!
No excuses for David!
Proverbs 18:21 The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.
Talk to yourself in encouraging words as David did! Listen to the voice of the Lord! No more excuses! Rise up! Put into action the things you know are right and true! Then get moving!
